10 Ways To Take Stress Out Of Your Day

Posted by sue | As Heard On The Show | Wednesday 23 June 2010 7:08 am

Taken from the Happiness Blog (a website of the day featured blog)

1. Keep some cash in the house. For years, I badgered my husband to get cash so we had cash in the house. Finally, light dawned: Why did I get to decide that this was his problem? Now I get cash when we need a reserve, and I feel much better.

2. Never let your car’s gas level fall into the “empty” zone. Special note to my fellow under-buyers: if you can afford it, fill the tank! Save yourself from having to return to the gas station in two days.

3. Have an over-the-counter pain reliever at hand at all times.

4. Put your keys away in the same place every day. This sounds so easy — and it is. It will make you so happy.

5. Turn out the light as soon as you’re sleepy. Since I started my happiness project, I’ve become a sleep nut. Getting enough sleep makes a huge difference in my sense of energy and cheerfulness.

6. Walk around the block.

7. Take ten minutes before bed to tidy up.

8. If you have to pack a lunch for anyone, get it ready the night before.

9. Have at least one good friend who lives in the neighborhood.

10. Make your bed. This sounds trivial, I know — but try it, it really helps!

Tim McGraw and Faith Hill will play host to some of music’s biggest stars at tonight’s Nashville Rising concert for flood relief. Faith says that fans will experience more than great music — they’ll come away with a sense of community. “All of us love this town so much and I think you’ll see that — a great sense of pride and unity.” Some of the artist joining Tim and Faith are Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton and Carrie Underwood.

Miranda Lambert will be a Spring 2011 bride, but that’s the only thing she has planned for her wedding to Blake Shelton.

Justin Moore is avoiding the sophomore slump by taking his time to record his second album. He says, “It’s tough because everybody tells you you’ve got your whole life to make your first album and then it’s difficult to find songs for you.

Brad Paisley has posted a special request on his website asking fans to pray for his friend, Olympic skating champion Scott Hamilton. He writes, “This week Scott has to have an operation to remove a benign growth on his pituitary gland. While this operation is not completely uncommon, anytime a person has brain surgery it’s good to keep them in your thoughts and prayers…I know no finer human being

Fun and Crazy Surveys We Found

Posted by sue | As Heard On The Show | Sunday 20 June 2010 9:56 pm

ScottAndSue!!!

A recent survey asked women what they thought about dating a “bad boy.” 72 percent said “Exciting!” while 28 percent thought it was overrated. So, being a bad boy still has its advantages! True ladies? What does it take for you to think a guy is a “bad boy?” Does he have a better chance with you, at least for sex? Do guys like women they think are “bad girls?”

According to a survey of 1000 Americans, almost two-thirds believe that life exists on other planets, and 90% say if we receive a message from another planet we should reply. The survey — conducted for the SETI Institute and National Geographic Channel — also found that 80% of Americans think it is likely that the intelligent life forms on other planets are more advanced than us and 70% think it is likely that these life forms have the technology to travel through space.

Men grocery shopping. There was a blurb in the prep about that and how guys aren’t very good at it. That prompted women to call in and give examples… usually along the lines of, “he gets what he wants, not what we need.” Apparently that’s a common guy tendancy. For instance, when he helps with the laundry, he does his stuff first.

About a million cell phones are dropped in toilets each year and that seemed high to me, but have you ever?

Can you find $448 a month? If you’re 30 years old, you need to set aside $448 per month for next 35 years to become a millionaire — if you earn a reasonable 8% return in a retirement account.

The Travelodge hotel chain have conducted a survey of 2,248 people to find out what helps them go to sleep. According to Reuters music topped the list. Some popular artists fro sleeping: Coldplay, James Blunt, Snow Patrol, Take That, and Norah Jones, Elton John and James Taylor. Apparently no country music fans were asked. Which song or artist puts you to sleep?

Country Music Scoop

Keith Urban hits the road with the legendary Eagles and The Dixie Chicks tonight in East Rutherford, New Jersey. A longtime fan of the Eagles, Keith says it was a no-brainer to join the tour. He tells us, “The entire audience is going to know…every single song.”

Lady Antebellum’s Need You Now is having no problem remaining the number-one country album in America. Its 41,000 copies sold last week is 22,000 more than the number-two album, Zac Brown Band’s Foundation.

Miranda Lambert’s Revolution will hop back into the number-three spot. That puts Carrie Underwood’s Play On at number-four and Taylor Swift’s Fearless at number-five. Brooks and Dunn and Hank Williams the Third’s albums fall out of the Top 5.

Toby Keith will be spending Independence Day in Beantown. He’ll perform at The Boston Pops’ annual Fourth of July Concert and fireworks show. The show, hosted by Craig Ferguson, will air on CBS. -

Tim McGraw’s is leaving his longtime label, Curb Records, after his next album — and then he wants to concentrate on smaller projects. He might even try an album of ’70s rock covers. At a music industry meeting earlier this week, Tim said, “I’ve had a great career, but after 13 albums, it’s time for a change.

Martina McBride will perform at Nashville’s LP Field this weekend as part of the CMA Music Festival. She’s hoping that the typically hot weather subsides for her show, but the forecast includes temperatures in the 90s and random showers. Martina tells us, “That’s probably wishful thinking”.

Shania Twain’s divorce from record producer Robert “Mutt” Lange is final. People.com reports that papers were filed in Switzerland this week. Shania has moved on with her life — she’s romantically linked to Frederic Thiebaud, the ex-husband of the woman who contributed to the break-up of her marriage. She’ll soon get to work on her TV show, Why Not? With Shania Twain.

Heat Safety Tips

Posted by sue | As Heard On The Show | Tuesday 8 June 2010 6:27 am

* Dress for the heat. Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing. Light colors will reflect away some of the sun’s energy. Wearing a hat is also a good idea, or use an umbrella.

* Drink plenty of water. Carry water or juice with you and drink continuously even if you do not feel thirsty. Avoid alcohol and caffeine, which dehydrate the body.

* Eat small meals and eat more often. Avoid high-protein foods.

* Slow down. Avoid strenuous activity as much as possible. If you must do strenuous activity, do it during the coolest part of the day.

* Stay indoors when possible. If air-conditioning is not available, stay on the lowest floor out of the sunshine.

* Be a good neighbor. During heat waves, check in on elderly residents in your neighborhood and those who do not have air conditioning.
