MIRANDA LAMBERT: Paws for the Cause

Miranda Lambert raised almost $100,000 for homeless animals at her third annual Paws for the Cause event in Nashville last weekend. The festivities included dinner and a concert featuring Miranda, Nightwork, Kacey Musgraves, Whiskey Myers and surprise guest Blake Shelton. Miranda says, “It is the best feeling in the world to know we are helping in the fight to treat and find homes for abandoned and abused animals.”

The event benefited the East Texas Humane Society, where Miranda got her dog Delilah.

TRACE ADKINS: Riggers Remembered

On Tuesday, Trace Adkins spoke via video to attendees at the Jackson, Mississippi memorial for 11 oil workers killed when that rig exploded off the Gulf of Mexico on April 20th. According to U.S.A. Today he said, “It was hard work and it was dangerous work, but nobody, especially today, expects it to end like this.” Diamond Rio also performed at the service.

Afterward, Trace told CNN, “I’m all for weaning ourselves off of oil — don’t get me wrong — but until we find another alternative, that’s what we gotta do.”

JAKE OWEN: Bonnie and Jake

The video for Jake Owen’s latest single, “Tell Me,” has Jake playing a cop in pursuit of a Bonnie and Clyde-like couple. Jake says the Bonnie character is nothing but trouble. “She’s trying to entice me into doing something that I probably should not be doing.” In the end, the story takes an interesting twist with Jake’s character running off with Bonnie.

REBA McENTIRE: Unplugged and Urban

Reba McEntire’s Unplugged episode premieres on CMT this week. Besides her own hits, she performs is Beyonce’s “If I Were a Boy.” She says, “I love the idea of her saying if she was a boy, she’d treat the girlfriend a lot better. I think she’s trying to open his eyes to being more respectful and caring but then she realizes, ‘You’re just a boy.’ You can check it out on CMT.com.

Toby Keith has endured a stormy month. During his recent USO tour of the Middle East, he was caught in a sandstorm and had to spend the night in tent city at a forward operating base. And during the floods in Nashville, he lost almost all of his touring gear and set. Soon after that came the tornadoes in his hometown in Oklahoma. Toby tells NewsOK.com, “Well, we’ve had a bad month, but…we’re fortunate. You can’t do anything about the will of God.

Brad Paisley kicked off his H2O Tour last weekend — no small feat after the floods in Nashville destroyed his set earlier this month. On Friday in Virginia Beach, he told the crowd, “It took perseverance to get here tonight. Every member of my team made this a reality, and I am so proud of them.”

On Saturday in Bristow, Virginia, fans braved the rain to play on the muddy Slip and Slide on the tour’s Water World Plaza. Brad writes on Twitter, “You know you’re a redneck when there’s more mud on you than on your truck.”

Miranda and Blake engaged!
After five years of dating, Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton are engaged. After asking her father’s permission, Blake popped the question in the woods near Miranda’s house. Then they toasted each other with rum and Diet Sprite in a paper cup. ‘Ran tells People.com, “I’m just excited to be married because I want to tell Blake I really can love him the rest of my life and be happy and make him happy.” “We’ve seen the best and the absolute worst of each other I think. And for whatever reason, through all that we’re still together. I know right now we’re stronger than we’ve ever been together.”

5 Tips to healthier and happier home

Posted by sue | As Heard On The Show | Monday 24 May 2010 8:43 am

• Color your way to happiness - Adding color to any room is a drastic mood lifter, and it can be done pretty quickly! Consider painting just one wall a lively color. A bright red, a soothing green or even a vibrant yellow completely changes the feel, and will really affect the vibe of a room.
• Celebrate life - First of all, think Flower Power! Fresh flowers are very easy to get at your local grocery market, and they make any room seem more alive. Plants have the same positive effect.
• Let there be light - The more points of light in any room, the better. Especially as the days are getting shorter, having warm lighting will help you feel more energized and alive through the winter months. Overhead lighting can be augmented by lamps in several places throughout a room.
• Get comfortable - You begin and end almost every day in your bedroom, so make the room an oasis! Have proper bedding and pillows. You will feel well rested, and it will be easier to get up in the morning.
• Take control - It’s this simple: Clear space = A clear mind. Keep desktops, countertops and tabletops open. Put the papers, files and knickknacks away. Not only will your home feel cleaner, it will feel a whole lot bigger!

Nashville Scoop Flood News

Nashville is now on the rough road to recovery. Various organizations, individuals and superstars are stepping up to raise money for the flood victims.

On Tuesday, June 22nd, the Music City community will unite to assist victims of the floods that ravaged Nashville and Middle Tennessee earlier this month. “NASHVILLE RISING: A Benefit Concert for Flood Recovery,” will take place at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. It will feature performances by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, who are spearheading the event, and numerous other artists. This superstar line-up will continue to grow and many additions will be announced as the event draws closer. Here’s a link for more information on the benefit concert and ticket information.

Kenny Chesney appeared on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360 Wednesday to discuss the devastation and the how the city is fighting its way back.

Brad Paisley’s H2O Tour is underwater, another victim of the Nashville flood. With just two weeks before the start of the tour, Paisley’s staging, props, amps and most of his guitars — save for his favorite — were destroyed in the flooding. Paisley tells the Associated Press, “”I sent a Tweet the other day that basically told people that when they come to the show just know that what you’re seeing has been fully tested under water. You’re talking about total cred. This is the H2O Tour. This isn’t posers acting like we know about it. We’ve done it, buddy.” Paisley is one of about 1,000 musicians who had gear at Soundcheck Nashville. Vince Gill is reportedly one of the musicians who suffered the greatest losses with most of his guitar collection, including one-of-a-kind vintage instruments, believed to be destroyed in the flood.

Jake Owen helped out the residents of Bellevue — a Nashville neighborhood that was hit hard by the floods, by handing out hamburgers and hotdogs to those struggling with the loss of their homes. Jake writes on Twitter, “I’ve never seen anything like this. Please keep these folks in your thoughts.”

DANNY GOKEY: Foundation Helping Flood Victims
Danny Gokey is using his foundation, Sophia’s Heart, to help flood victims in Nashville. To make a $10 donation from your cell phone, text ONEHEART to 85944 and confirm by replying “yes.” The charge will appear on your cell phone bill. Sophia’s Heart is named for his wife who passed away a couple of years ago.

Melissa Peterman, who played “Barbara Jean” on Reba McEntire’s sitcom, Reba, auctioned off her bedazzled George Strait T-shirt to benefit Nashville’s flood victims through the Nashville chapter of the American Red Cross. With matching donations from Reba, Melissa and a fan, the shirt raised $12,000 for the cause.

Lady Antebellum dedicate this week’s webisode to the victims of the Middle Tennessee floods. Hillary, Charles and Dave encourage you to join them in their show of support by donating $10 to the American Red Cross by texting 9-0-9-9-9.

A Pet Adoption Success Story!

Posted by sue | As Heard On The Show | Thursday 6 May 2010 8:48 am

One of our listeners called last week and asked for the phone number for the pet rescue organization we work with. She wanted to take her mom there to find a dog. We gave her the name of One Of A Kind Pets and she and her mom went there and fell in love with Boo-Bear…who had been an owner surrender from an elderly person who could no longer care for the dog. We are thrilled that our CPR (Country Pet Rescue) feature which airs every Thursday on WQMX at 8:40 helps to fin homes for these wonderful animals.

Thanks for the Call!
